Project overview

DRI 4069 includes the proposed Phase 2A project, which consists of a 5.5 MGD industrial wastewater treatment facility (IWTF) to reclaim and distribute non-potable water to industrial users in northeast Newton County, alleviating strain on raw water supply. Reject water, or wastewater from the reuse production process, would flow via gravity to the nearby A. Scott Emmons Water Reclamation Facility (ASEWRF). As design for the IWTF progressed, concerns arose surrounding the suitability of the ASEWRF for treatment of wastewater from the IWTF. To preserve capacity of the ASEWRF, the NCWSA is proposing to construct a land application system (LAS) for treatment of reject water from the IWTF. Reject water from the IWTF will be 20% of the influent volume. Therefore, the proposed LAS will treat up to 1.1 million gallons per day (MGD), which would have been discharged to the Little River after treatment at the ASEWRF according to DRI 4069. Phase I of the IWTF will be designed for an influent flow of 1.3 MGD, therefore, flows to the LAS will be 260,000 gallons per day (gpd). Expansion of the IWTF and LAS sprayfields will occur as growth and demand dictates. Project size as filed: 300 acres sprayfield. Estimated completion December 2025. IWTF, Dec 2026 ASEWRF. Filed as Georgia DRI #4297 on September 23, 2024, review status Completed.
