Mecklenburg County commercial permit B4688208: The VAPA Center - Phase 2 Change of Use - The VAPA Center (Visual and Performing Arts) organization currently occupied approximately 90% of the Mecklenburg County owned Hal Marshall Building located at 700 North Tryon Street. Per a series of series of conversations that have taken place over the past 1-2 years between The VAPA Center, Mecklenburg County Code Enforcement, and Mecklenburg County AFM, it has been determined that a "change of use" permit along with associated building alterations is required. The scope of this project is focused on converting the ground floor of the existing building to an Assembly occupancy thus allowing The VAPA Center to continue to operate as they currently do include various gallery, performance, and gathering spaces. The project entails a variety of scope items agreed upon during preliminary meetings with code enforcement including but not limited to: Penthouse fireproofing upgrades establishing the building as type 1B construction, select doors and hardware modifications, new family restroom, new rooftop DOAS unit, new building wide fire alarm system, exit signage enhancements, additional drinking fountains, structural floor loading and lateral force evaluation, and other misc scope of work items.. 700 N TRYON ST.
